Thur., March 24, 2011: History of Industrial Weaving in NC by Alan Donaldson

Dr. Alan Donaldson, Professor Emeritus at NC State University, will share a project near and dear to his heart. "THE ULTIMATE WOVEN DECLARATION" chronicles, in full detail, the creation of what is considered to be the world's greatest hand-woven achievement;  that of the reproduction, in pure silk, of Trumbull's "Declaration of Independence" which hangs in the rotunda of the Capitol, in Washington.  The piece was woven by hand, in the late 1920s, on a hand-loom rigged with Jacquard heads -- and Dr. Donaldson has access to one of the very limited-edition originals that was discovered a few years ago, and now hangs in the NC State College of Textiles.
