Community Outreach

Triangle Weavers makes a special effort to take fiber arts into the community.  Exhibits and demonstrations have been held at the Chapel Hill Museum, McDougle School Library, Duke Hospital, Girl Scout troops and camps, Bennett Place, Carolina Fiberfest and Charles House.  There have also been classroom presentations at various local schools. Members have assisted with the restoration of historic looms in local museums.

Community Outreach gives members a chance to exhibit and demonstrate their craft while letting the public see the rewards of working with fibers.  Members are encouraged to take part in this rewarding activity.

Triangle Weavers also participates in community projects which provide preemie hats, bassinet blankets, Linus blankets, caps, scarves and mittens for local hospitals and families in need.  Items are collected at the May and December meetings.

Each year we participate in Carolina Fiberfest held in the spring.  This year's event will be April 5-7, 2013 in Sanford.  This event

  • educates the public about fiber and its sources
  • promotes small farms producing fiber and fiber animals
  • supports fiber artists and fiber-related businesse and
  • provides a venue for the public to interact with the fiber atrs world.

By demonstrating skills to the public, sharing knowledge, and through the close interaction of workshops, Carolina Fiberfest is sowing the seeds for future generations of fiber artists and crafts people.
