grain, and cut pattern pieces out of their fabric. We will cover some tips and tricks of sewing with handwovens and learn several methods of protecting seams. Students will also learn how to make their own bias tape binding!  At the end of the class, students should be able to wear and show off their very own handwoven and hand sewn garment.  Some previous sewing experience is recommended for this class (students must have completed at least one sewing project), you must be able to provide  your own sewing machine and be familiar with its

  • In addition, don’t forget pins and scissors and if you have a rotary cutter and mat, please bring those.  The guild has a couple so no need to purchase if you don’t already own one.  (*If the pattern is purchased in digital form, please print and assemble the pattern before the start of class.)
  • The instructor also offers handwoven fabric appropriate for this garment available for purchase by the 1/2 yard ($25-$30 per 1/2 yard 50” wide)-contact her in advance if you wish to purchase handwoven fabric from her.

We will explore how to draft these patterns using the computer.  Then students will select one of 3 drafts to weave, choose two colors of pearl cotton for their warp, measure their warp, set up their looms and weave mug mats.

All yarns and equipment needed for class will be provided by the guild, including a  floor loom.

Pre-requisites for Participants:
  • Students should be comfortable warping a floor loom
  • All students must wear a face mask.
  • Bring a lunch to each meeting
