Illoomination: “Deconstructing”
Wednesday, October 14th, 2020, 11:00am Hosted by Helen Bower Jones on Zoom Join us as Helen provides a closer look at her freeform woven pieces, which generated a lot of interest at the August Guild meeting Show & Tell. To view her portion of the Show & Tell, go to the YouTube video and fast forward to 53:23. The group of three hangings uses a range of techniques including painted warp, leno, inlay, overshot and doubleweave. Helen will talk in more detail about her inspiration for the pieces, and the processes and structures used. There will be a slide show followed by time for questions. |

Virtual Illoomination: Introduction to Fiberworks
Come and learn the basics of creating, saving, and printing a draft in Fiberworks PCW. You will also be introduced to some wonderful drafting tools included in the software. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers. It is not necessary to have Fiberworks before the Illoomination. But here is the link to download the Bronze version prior to class. Virtual Illoomination: Winding & Tying Skeins and Warps for Dyeing
Avoid tangling and uneven dyeing by winding skeins of an appropriate size and by tying them so that they stay secure without creating a resist. Apply the same techniques to warps created for hand painting. Learn to use a niddy-noddy for full and half length skeins and how to use your arm or leg if you don't have one. Additional discussion will include warping boards vs warping reels, niddy-noddies vs skein winders and swifts, appropriate material for skein ties, and the difference between tying for painting and immersion dyeing. Plaited Paper Baskets Including Use of Recycled Materials
Plaiting baskets tips the tabby structure on its side when weaving a basket with a variety of materials including paper such as recycled paper bags, newspapers and magazines. Learn how to make a plaited basket through a step-by-step demonstration. Helpful hints on the folding, weaving and finishing a basket will be included.
