Orange County LocalFest
Saturday, September 29 | 10am-6pm Blackwood Farm Park | Hillsborough In its inaugural year, Orange County LocalFest will offer a diverse, family-friendly festival that celebrates and promotes local food, local music, the local economy, and the county’s heritage and culture. LocalFest is sponsored by Orange County Government and is free to attend. Live music, cooking demonstrations, local artists and crafters, and educational and kids’ activities will highlight the daylong event. |
Heritage Day

Arts & Health at Duke presents
To Your Health! Fiber Collage by Barbara L. Smith August 30 - October 30, 2018 Arts & Health Galleries Duke Hospital Concourse Barbara Lee Smith is an artist, writer, educator, lecturer and curator. She is the author of Celebrating the Stitch, published in 1991 and credited with helping to put contemporary embroidery on the art world map. Her work is in the collection of the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Racine Art Museum, The Tacoma Art Museum, and the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, as well as other corporate and private collections. She served for three years on the Board of Trustees of the Bellevue Arts Museum. With an MFA in Mixed Media, she continues to mix it up with paint, collage and machine stitched drawing. She lives and works in Durham, NC. |
Threads of Africa: A Celebration of Art, Nature, and People
Permanent Exhibit NC Museum of Art 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC East Building Join us as we unveil the newly reinstalled African art gallery in our East Building with a daylong celebration of African art, nature, music, and culture! The Museum Park comes alive with music and dance performances, drum-making workshops, collaborative community art activities, food, African cultural activities, and more! Walk the new gallery and experience conversations with experts and storytellers, and participate in a collaborative art project with artist Maya Freelon Asante.
The day concludes with a free concert by world-renowned West African artist Angélique Kidjo (ticket required). |
Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair
Friday-Sunday, October 26-28, 2018 WNC Agricultural Center 1301 Fanning Bridge Rd. Fletcher, NC Join us for 3 days of fun for the entire family! Hours are 9 to 6 pm on Friday and Saturday. 9 to 4 pm on Sunday. See spinning, knitting, weaving, felting and much more! Join a workshop class to improve your skills or just enjoy browsing and shopping the beautiful and unique apparel and wearables. Also vendors, livestock shows and much more!
The event is located at the WNC Agricultural Center, in Fletcher, NC, across Hwy 280 from the Asheville Regional Airport. (Exit 40 off I-26). Admission will be $5/person per day. $10 pass for 3 days. At the 2018 Art Extravaganza, Alamance Artisans Guild members will showcase and sell unique and wide-ranging works, including painting, pastels, pottery, jewelry, photography, sculpture, fabric, mixed media, and wood. The free indoor event will be held at The Vailtree Event & Conference Center in Haw River, which is conveniently located beside I-85/I-40 at exit 150 between Mebane and Graham. Browse the hundreds of art choices, enjoy refreshments and artists’ demonstrations, and enter an art raffle. Bring family and friends and experience a day of arts and crafts.

2018 Durham ArtWalk Holiday Market
Saturday November 17, 10am-5pm and Sunday November 18, 1-5 pm Downtown Durham, starting at 120 Morris Street The Durham Art Walk Holiday Market is a festive fine arts and craft event that kicks off the holiday season in downtown Durham, and invites art lovers to experience a weekend featuring local artists, live music, world-class restaurants, and great shopping, at easily stroll-able venues in the Durham city center. This year the Durham Arts Council has expanded Art Walk Holiday Market festival features to include indoor and outdoor exhibitors, performers on the Erie Insurance Music Stage, kids art activities, inflatables, train rides, and delicious local food truck fare, beer and hot cider. Visitors will clamor for beautiful hand-crafted creations (including the free Vega Metals ornament!), just in time for holiday shopping. The Durham Art Walk Holiday Market is the perfect transition from the harvest to the holidays! Free and family friendly! A Holiday Pop-Up: A Last Friday Event
November 30 - December 26, 6-9 pm The Skylight Gallery 102 West King Street Hillsborough, NC 27278 The Skylight Gallery presents “A Holiday Pop Up” by Steven Brouillard, Debbie Suchoff and Anna Wallace, featuring photography, drawings, jewelry, ceramics, wearable and fine art textiles. Winter in the Garden
Holiday Craft Market Saturday, December 8, 2018, 5 - 9 pm The North Carolina Botanical Garden will host our second annual Winter in the Garden event on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 5p to 9p. The garden grounds will be showcased with exciting light displays along with live music, family activities, a Carolina Blue Santa, and food vendors. NCBG is also partnering with the UNC General Alumni Association to attract the larger UNC community. This year we are adding a craft market to showcase Triangle and North Carolina artists. Some TWG members will be there! |
The Beyond: Georgia O'Keeffe and Contemporary Art
October 13, 2018–January 20, 2019 NC Art Museum East Building, Meymandi Exhibition Gallery Enormous flowers, luscious color, and desert landscapes. Georgia O’Keeffe pioneered revolutionary ways of visually interpreting the world, leaving a lasting legacy for generations of viewers and artists. The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art brings together a significant group of O’Keeffe’s works as the centerpiece of an exploration of her continued force as a touchstone for contemporary art. Alongside paintings and sculpture by this founder of American modernism, viewers encounter works by emerging artists that evoke and expand upon O’Keeffe’s enchanting artistic language. SILVIA HEYDEN: TAPESTRIES ART EXHIBITION
October 2, 2018 to February 2, 2019 Betty Ray McCain Art Gallery Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts 2 East South Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 Silvia Heyden was born in 1927 in Bosel, Switzerland. She studied at the School of Arts in Zurich under direction of Johannes Itten. She moved to Durham in 1966 when her husband was hired as a faculty member at the Duke University School of Medicine. She exhibited widely in the United States up until 1993 when she moved back to Switzerland and continued her work there. She returned to Durham in 2005. Her work along with that of Edith London was the subject of a major exhibition in 2014 at the Durham Arts Council. Her works are in the collections of the North Carolina Museum of Art, The Met Museum of Art, The Gregg Museum of Art and Design, Wake Forest University, and the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States. She died in 2015. An opening reception will be held for this exhibition on Tuesday, October 16th from 5:30-7:30pm with a gallery talk at 6:15pm. |
Carolina FiberFest PreEvent Party –
March 16, 2019 10am – 5pm State Fairgrounds, Expo Center Raleigh, NC We are growing and the opportunity to lease the Expo Center for the 2020 Carolina FiberFest (NEXT year) just became available. However, in order to secure it for next year, we had to rent it this year. It was too late to move CFF back one week so we decided to use the space to throw a party and invite all of our fiber friends to come hang out and work on your favorite fiber craft. Details are still being worked out, but we will have awesome activities including:

Basic Navajo Weaving: The Navajo Way
