With 40 workshops in weaving, spinning, dyeing, felting and other fiber arts, an active marketplace and many special events, the Conference Planning Committee is busy getting ready your experience at MAFA 2019. Master weaver and author Tom Knisely will keynote MAFA 2019!

The Durham Art Guild presents “A Force of Nature” featuring new individual and collaborative works by DAG members and our own guild members, Evee Erb eveeerb.com and Sydney Sogol sydneysogol.com. Textile artists Evee Erb and Sydney Sogol believe that environmental health can be facilitated through art. Utilizing recycled and environmentally friendly materials addressing themes of conservation, A Force of Nature is an exhibition featuring handwoven textiles and sculptures.

NC State Wilson College of Textiles Open House is a wonderful event for all ages to discover, learn and engage with textiles. Staff, faculty and students will be available to engage you in demonstrations, activities and information sessions on the Wilson College of Textiles. Things to do: tour the college, identify fibers, tie dye a shirt, eat an edible non-woven, try on protective gear, weave a bracelet, win door prizes, enjoy food trucks. Guild members will be participating in the CFF Spin-In from 9 am – 4 pm. Bring a wheel and join us! Alamance Artisans 2019 Art Extravaganza
Our guild member Jean Fortune Kaplan will exhibit tapestries and wearables at the Alamance Artisans’ 2019 Art Extravaganza at the Vailtree Event Center, October 26–27, 2019, and its Preview Exhibit at the Frank Community Gallery, September 28–29, 2019. The free-admission Art Extravaganza includes 31 artists of diverse media and offers light refreshments and wine, raffles, and demonstrations at the Vailtree Event Center, which is handicapped accessible with free parking. alamanceartisans.com/extravaganza

25th Annual Open Studio Tour Studios open: November 2,3, 9 & 10, 2019 Now in its 25th year, the 2019 open studio tour takes place the first 2 weekends in November. Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm, Sundays from 12 noon to 5 pm. Free and open to the public. Each year during the first two weekends in November, the potters, glass blowers, sculptors, jewelers, fiber artists and painters of the Orange County Artist’s Guild open their studios to the public. This is your chance to view a working artist studio, ask questions, and shop for beautiful, one of a kind art. Nomadic Murals: Tapestries of the Modern Era
Location: Bechtler Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC Fourth-Floor GalleryTime April 5, 2019 - December 1, 2019 The exhibition is an exploration and presentation of more than 40 tapestries created by artists usually associated with painting, sculpture, and architecture, including Alexander Calder, Le Corbusier, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso among many others. Nomadic Murals will highlight the museum’s collection of tapestries from the mid-20th century, as well as shed light on a unique medium that has been important to many great Modern and contemporary artists. Craft + Design
