About the Triangle Fiber Arts Center

3717 Murphy School Rd,
Durham, NC 27705-8009
The Triangle Weavers Guild leases space for the Triangle Fiber Arts Center (TFAC) in the Murphy School, a historic building in Durham.   We currently have three classrooms devoted to our community of fiber artists.  For large gatherings, we also have access to the auditorium.

The Guild hosts open hours, drop-ins and regularly scheduled study groups at TFAC for informal sharing of projects, techniques, and problem-solving.  Classes and workshops are held here throughout the year.  The primary classroom is well-equipped with looms, warping boards, and the tools of the trade.  The other rooms contain the extensive library, donated materials, and exhibit space.

The History of the Triangle Fiber Arts Center starts with
... the History of the Murphey School.  Read more about Murphey School, from its founding to the present.

More history coming soon...

NB:   Murphey and Murphy are two spellings used in reference to TFAC.  For example, in the TFAC mailing address, the spelling is "Murphy"; but the person for whom the building was named spelled his name "Murphey".

November/December 2015 issue of Handwoven features TWG/TFAC Story

A new guild home
"A beautifully restored old schoolhouse set among rural green pastures is once again a home for education and learning, but this time the subject is fiber arts. The Triangle Weavers Guild opened the door to the area’s new Triangle Fiber Arts Center (TFAC) in Durham, North Carolina. The Triangle Weavers Guild held an open house earlier this year and already has placed TFAC on the map as a place to learn about all things fiber, with many study groups and classes, including one on garment construction with Daryl Lancaster and a tapestry class by Anita Wolfenden. Special children’s fiber activities are planned for later this year.

The Triangle Weavers Guild envisions the new TFAC as a place to offer even more weaving and fiber-related classes, seminars, and workshops to inspire the creativity of guild members and to serve as a home where knowledge and skills can be shared with the community. To learn more about the guild and the TFAC, visit www.triangleweavers.org."
