Earlier this year, the Met Breuer hosted a retrospective of the Indian artist Mrinalini Mukherjee. Tate Modern featured Bauhaus trained textile artist Anni Albes.. On top of that, at last week’s Frieze London there was a dedicated section called “Woven.” At the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair that ran concurrently, there was a section entitled “Thread.”
